10. Thirteen Lives (2022)

IMDb RATING: 7.8 Story: A rescue mission is assembled in Thailand where a group of young boys and their soccer coach are trapped in a system of underground caves that are flooding.

This was better than expected. Could have gone sideways in so many fashions but resists at every turn to become soapish or maudlin or fall into action flick tropes but it does not. In Ron Howard’s able hands this amazing true story comes alive with intrigue and emotion. And clocking in at 2 1/2 hours, for me it did not feel overlong or slow.

9. Emily the Criminal (2022)

IMDb RATING: 6.7 Story: Down on her luck and saddled with debt, Emily gets involved in a credit card scam that pulls her into the criminal underworld of Los Angeles, ultimately leading to deadly consequences.

user reviews
Gripping, poignant, acting as good as it gets, and a story that keeps you wanting to see more. I keep this review brief because if you don’t see this move you will be the one missing out. Best thing I have watched at home or in the movie theater for some time.

8. X (2022)

IMDb RATING: 6.6 Story: In 1979, a group of young filmmakers set out to make an adult film in rural Texas, but when their reclusive, elderly hosts catch them in the act, the cast find themselves fighting for their lives.

user reviews
I can’t with movies full of characters that just walk around without any instinct doing the absolute dumbest things they could possibly choose before they’re murdered. It’s literally the whole movie. The ‘action and gore’ is actually pretty tame. The sex is explicit. The characters are idiots.

7. Breaking (2022)

IMDb RATING: 6.2 Story: A Marine war veteran faces mental and emotional challenges when he tries to reintegrate into civilian life.

user reviews
This movie is about a veteran who is seriously wronged by the V. A. Administration and takes matters into his own hands. It’s based on a true story.
First, the acting was VERY good.. and John Boyege (playing the lead role as Brian Brown-Easley) does a phenomenal job acting the role. His “hostages”, played by Nicole Beharie and Selenis Leyva, do an incredible job acting as well.

6. Fall (I) (2022)

FALL Official Trailer (2022)

IMDb RATING: 6.4 Story: Best friends Becky and Hunter find themselves at the top of a 2,000-foot radio tower.

8/10! If you enjoyed the movie The Shallows with Blake Lively this is essentially the same vibes but instead of out in the water with the shark you are 2,000 feet up high stranded with vultures. Great acting, story and feels with this one and a major shocker for me I didn’t see coming. Had a good ending to, I def recommend it!

5. Nocebo (2022)

IMDb RATING: 6.3 Story: A fashion designer is suffering from a mysterious illness that puzzles her doctors and frustrates her husband until help arrives in the form of a Filipino carer, who uses traditional folk healing to reveal a horrifying truth.

4. Rogue Agent (2022)

IMDb RATING: 6.4 Story: The extraordinary and chilling story of career conman Robert Freegard who masqueraded as an MI5 agent and fooled people into going into hiding, and the woman who fell for him, and then brought him down.

3. Watcher (2022)

IMDb RATING: 6.3 Story: A young American woman moves with her husband to Bucharest, and begins to suspect that a stranger who watches her from the apartment building across the street may be a local serial killer decapitating women.

user reviews
This movie doesn’t want you to get your hopes too high – it is what it is, a nice thriller/horror that is a bit slow, but not boring. Has that style of old Dario Argento movies, which I love. It is better than most of new films, and has that old school suspense style, which is refreshing in the sea of new movies that are trying too hard to let you know they are “smart”.

If you want to see something new, and there are not a lot of good options, Watcher is a good choice to… watch, for a quiet summer night.

2. Scream (2022)

IMDb RATING: 6.3 Story: 25 years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, Calif., a new killer dons the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past.

user reviews
I don’t know where the hype is coming from. Its not that i hate the movie or anything, but its just more of the same thing. Its a bloody slasher film, the acting is average, the killings are predictable, and the story is the same. Its a rehash of every other scream movie, its not bad, its just nothing new and frankly that makes it a little on the boring side.

1. Prey for the Devil

IMDb RATING: 5.1 Story: A nun prepares to perform an exorcism and comes face to face with a demonic force with mysterious ties to her past.

user reviews
Absolute f knows what to say some of it was awful and some very good who knows I feel confused. I really honestly don’t know what to say about this. Someone in these reviews said Smile was a better movie which is just not true at all as it’s just a complete re hash of the same premise ‘It Follows’ has and the same goes for this. Same idea and execution of every other demonic possession horror movie you’ve ever seen. I honestly think that movies are that bad nowadays that my expectations are that low making titles like this seem better than they are. This will be forgotten about. Still worth a cinema date I guess but don’t expect much.
